Woah… I’ve been in Duolingo for 10 years now. Really sucks I haven’t been consistent and am now speaking like 4–5 languages!

I still can’t predictably do a trill with Italian words though. Amazingly a trill will occasionally happen and then surprise me. Like how did that happen? How can I do that intentionally?
I’ve started language learning again… this time with Italian. It’s easier than German or Japanese! Since Nat is still learning Korean we do nightly “language study” together. I’ll go through my vocab list, read a few stories in Lingq, and then watch Easy Italian on YouTube. So fun.
I’ve been diving deep into my family tree—specifically my Italian family—and have found a bunch of documents about my great-grandfather. Seeing it all together in one doc amazed me; I’ve found a lot. Now need to understand the new doc I found about him several states away. Unknown family drama?!
Walking over a bunch of sand dunes I saw a a guy sitting on top of a dune reading a book. As I got closer I realized he was reading “Dune”. Well played.

Early in the pandemic Nat and I started Twitch streaming our Geoguessr games. This was a fun moment where Nat realized we were in Malta at the last second!
I only learned recently that the Oak Rock trail at Umstead State Park in Raleigh is apparently named after this oak growing out of these rocks. The naming is pretty accurate.

I’ve been exploring genealogy again and… I think I may have found my maternal great grandfather’s Italian birth certificate—it’s in Italian of course so I could be reading it wrong, but it seems to match both his date of birth and parent’s names.
This weather alert is hilarious. 😒
I’ve owned my house for 20 years this month and I’ve finally decided I should have an automatic garage door opener installed. Tomorrow is the day!

Dear Jeep, Please make this real. Please. youtu.be/350Y0WhL6…
The coloring on this tree’s bark is so weird. From Staunton River State Park in Virginia. #photography
The Raleigh iOS developer meetup I started in 2011 is in need of an organizer again. I miss running that group but not sure what it would be any more. I wish someone had a vision for it, sad to see it really end 😢.
Also why is meetup.com so expensive!?

If you add a white matte style border around photos when you post them to social media… I’m curious why? I see it a lot and wonder if it helps people see the photo better or something. It just seems weird to me—but maybe mildly skeuomorphic—to have a white matte on a social media post.

I’ve started to end every meeting putting my AirPods back in their case and closing it like this. It’s providing such great closure to meetings! 😂
It’s “Year of the Trail” in North Carolina so we talked about our favorite trails and some trails we’d like to visit this year.
Nat wanted pancakes in the van again so I made a vancake this time! Pancake art!?!?
Cooking foil wrapped meals on the fire!
Nat took the van to run an errand so I’m sitting at the campsite with Ginger. It started sprinkling a little so she gets the umbrella! She is not happy about this situation.
Earlier today I panicked when I couldn’t find my watch. Looked all over, no luck.
I put it on the wrong wrist. 🤦♂️
Tonight I tried to make eastern NC style pulled pork BBQ, but plant-based. Marinated tofu and added a vinegar-based sauce I made. Also made hush puppies!
I think I got it right! So good.
